Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

The Journal of Clinical Care and Medical Advancement (JCCMA) requires all submissions to adhere strictly to the following formatting and structural guidelines. This ensures uniformity and professionalism across all published articles.

1. General Manuscript Format
• File Format: Manuscripts must be submitted in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx).
• Font: Use Times New Roman, 12-point font throughout the document.
• Line Spacing: Double-spaced, including references, tables, and figure captions.
• Margins: 1-inch (2.54 cm) margins on all sides.
• Page Numbers: Number all pages consecutively in the bottom right corner.
• Word Limit: The manuscript (excluding references, tables, and figures) should not exceed 6,000 words.
• Language: Manuscripts must be written in English (American spelling preferred).
• Units of Measurement: Use SI units. Non-SI units may be included in parentheses.

2. Manuscript Structure
Title Page
• Title: Concise and informative, not exceeding 15 words. Use sentence case, bold, and centered.
• Authors: Full names of all authors listed in the order of contribution.
• Affiliations: Include institutional affiliations for each author, written as: [Department], [Institution], [City], [Country].
• Corresponding Author: Provide the name, email address, and phone number.

Abstract
• Word Count: 250 words maximum.
• Structure: Structured abstract with the following headings:
o Background: Brief context of the study.
o Objective: Aim of the research.
o Methods: Key methods used.
o Results: Main findings.
o Conclusion: Summary of key implications.
• Keywords: Provide 3–6 keywords listed alphabetically, separated by commas.

Introduction
• Purpose: Provide background information, the rationale for the study, and clearly state the objective or research question.
• Length: Limit to 600 words.
• Style: Written in narrative form with no subheadings.

Methods and Materials
Subheadings: Use clear subheadings to describe:
• Study design.
• Study population and sampling methods.
• Data collection procedures.
• Ethical considerations (approval number from an ethics review board & other relevant statutory approval reference numbers must be included).
• Statistical analysis: Include software used, version, and statistical tests performed.
• Formatting: Ensure sufficient detail for reproducibility.

Results
Content
• Present findings in a logical sequence. Avoid repeating data in tables and figures in the text.

Tables and Figures
• Tables: Include descriptive titles above the tables.
• Figures: Provide captions above the figures/tables. Figures must be submitted as high-resolution images (300 dpi) in PNG, JPEG, or TIFF format.
• Number tables and figures consecutively (e.g., Table 1, Figure 1).
• Statistical Significance: Report with p-values and confidence intervals where appropriate.
Discussion
Structure
• Interpretation: Discuss the significance of findings in relation to existing literature.
• Limitations: Acknowledge study limitations.
• Future Directions: Suggest areas for further research.

Conclusion and Recommendations
• Present conclusions succinctly.
• Offer actionable recommendations based on findings.
• Length: Combined discussion, conclusion, and recommendations should not exceed 1,500 words.

Conflict of Interest
• Clearly declare any conflicts of interest for all authors or state: “The authors declare no conflicts of interest.”

Author Contributions
Use the CRediT taxonomy to specify author roles. For example:
• Conceptualization: [Author Name(s)].
• Data Curation: [Author Name(s)].
• Writing - Original Draft: [Author Name(s)].
• Writing - Review & Editing: [Author Name(s)].

References
Style: Follow APA 7th Edition guidelines.
In-text Citations
• Use author-date format, e.g., (Smith, 2023).
• For multiple authors: Use “et al.” after the first author if there are more than two authors.
Reference List
• Start on a new page titled References.
• List references alphabetically by the first author's last name.
• Use hanging indent (0.5 inches).

Submission Guidelines
• Online Submission: Manuscripts must be submitted via the journal's submission portal at [https://journals.mjmbiolabs.co.ke/index.php/JCMA/about/submissions].
• File Naming: Use the format: JCCMA_[AuthorLastName]_Manuscript.docx (e.g., JCCMA_Smith_Manuscript.docx).
• Ethics Approval: Include a statement of ethical approval in the methods section, with the ethics approval number and issuing institution.

Additional Notes
• Avoid plagiarism. All manuscripts will be screened using plagiarism detection software.
• Adhere strictly to the word limits for each section to avoid rejection.
• Ensure all figures and tables are cited within the text.
